KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mohammad Sajjad, Shahram Changezi and Babar Masih are among other unbeaten cueists who have lifted country’s image in the men’s category of Jubilee Insurance World 6-Reds snooker event at Movenpick hotel on Saturday.

The 29-year-old snooker maestro Sajjad (group C), Shahram (group B) and Babar (group D) have won all their four matches so far ensuring a smooth passage into the knockout round.

Sajjad first got the better of UAE’s Khalid Kamali 4-2 (42-1, 45-0, 29-38, 60-5, 0-42, 39-15) and then blanked Indian Varun Kumar straight 76-0, 72-0, 39-0, 44-1.

Bespectacled Shahram continued his winning spree by winning back to back matches. He come from behind to beat Englishman Christ Hart 4-2 (16-38, 4-58, 44-15, 63-1, 44-6, 37-30) and then brushed aside Bahrain’s Khalil Busaif (59-9, 29-28, 33-20, 34-27).

Babar also conjured successive victories to strengthen his position. His first victim was Malaysian Kok Leong Lim whom he beat 4-2 (55-12, 0-48, 0-44, 43-0, 35-22, 42-28. In the next session, he accounted for Sri Lankan Sasika Perera 4-1 (35-5, 39-2, 14-43, 56-0, 60-0).

Chinese Yan Bingtao, who landed the world snooker title at Bangalore by getting the better of Sajjad last year, Hong Kong’s Lee Chun Wai and Fung Kwok Wai, UAE Mohammad Shehab and Indian Dherminder Lilly have also won all their four matches so far.

Meanwhile, Indian Amee Kamani and Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee look poised to advance into the last four from group A and B respectively. Both have won four matches each.
