KHAR: The political administration of Bajaur Agency has started a survey to assess the damage caused by recent rains and floods in the region.

“The survey is in progress to know about the losses of public and private properties caused by the recent floods,” said officials while briefing a meeting of the political administration here the other day.

They said that several teams consisting of the administration officials and Levies personnel had been sent to various areas for the purpose.

Bajaur Agency political agent Mohammad Yahya Akhunzada chaired the meeting, which was attended by officials of the administration, various relevant departments and Levies force.

Suhail Ahmed and Fayaz Sherpao, assistant political agents of Khar and Nawagai sub-division, respectively, briefed the meeting about the damage. The participants were told that maize crop, vegetables and fruits on hundreds of acres were also affected by heavy rains and floods.

The political agent asked the officials to speed up their activities to complete the damage assessment as soon as possible. He stressed the need for proper planning to prevent such disasters in future.

The meeting decided that the administration would provide financial assistance to the family members of victims of the house collapse incident that happened in Bara Mukha area of Mamond tehsil two days ago.

Meanwhile, the administration plans to increase the compensation amount for the victims of militancy in the region. This announcement was made by the political agent while addressing a ceremony held in connection with the distribution of compensation cheques among the heirs of victims of terrorism acts.

He said that recommendation in this regard had already been sent to the high-ups.

Referring to the law and order situation, Suhail Khan said that the administration was committed to maintaining peace and writ of the government in the region.

He appreciated the local people for supporting the administration in its efforts for maintenance of peace. Compensation cheques were given to the families of 13 civilians, who were killed in bomb blasts and other militancy-related incidents in the agency.
