Snooker prodigy Hamza set to make pro debut soon

KARACHI: Snooker prodigy Hamza Akbar, who scaled new heights by capturing the Asian snooker title at Kuala Lumpur in the recent past, said he was looking forward to joining the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) circuit in England by the end of this month.

“I’ve completed my documentation and will apply for British and Schengen visa on Monday,” he told Dawn from Faisalabad on Sunday.

Hamza, who earned qualification for the pro-circuit after becoming Asian champion, was barred by the WPBSA to play in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World 6-Reds and Team Event which is being played in the city from Aug 6 to 15.

The 21-year-old cueist added that he hope to get visa within a fortnight and will become first Pakistani to play in the pro-circuit.

“I’ve already missed two events and if everything goes well, I will make my pro debut by featuring in SangSom 6-Reds,” he added.

The two-time national champion said after returning to his home town from Karachi he was practising at the Faisalabad snooker academy daily and was in fine nick.
