ASWJ leader detained

RAWALPINDI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday detained Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) local leader Qari Imran Hazarvi and shifted him to the Adiala jail for 90 days.

On the other hand, the Special Branch has provided a list of 30 active members of the banned ASWJ to the police to keep them under a strict watch.

According to sources, Hazarvi, the Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Siddique Akbar, Mohra Chapper Chakri Road, was picked in the light of intelligence that the outfit might try to create law and order situation in retaliation to the killing of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi chief Malik Ishaq along with his two sons during an ‘encounter’ with the CTD in Muzaffargarh on Wednesday.

After obtaining detention orders from the district coordination officer (DCO) Rawalpindi, the CTD picked Hazarvi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

Meanwhile, security in the Rawalpindi division has been raised to the high alert in the wake of Malik Ishaq’s killing.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja told Dawn that extra police personnel had been deployed around the police installations, the CTD police station and other government establishments.
