Body to finalise list of policemen holding posts for too long

RAWALPINDI: A three-member committee, headed by SP Headquarters Ameer Abdullah Khan Niazi has been formed to prepare a list of those police officials who had been staying at a post for long in Rawalpindi division.

The other members of the committee are DSP Administration Shoaib Aqueel Khan and Inspector Establishment Department Zaheer Ahmed Butt.

Experts termed it a good move by the RPO Sultan Raja as none of his predecessors or the city police officer had ever tried to transfer influential police personnel from the posts they were holding for long.

One of the committee members revealed that they would also include the traffic police officials in the lists in addition to those posted at Police lines, Security Branch, Legal Branch, CPO office, SP’s offices.

The committee will also scan clerical staff, staff of the account branch and all other non-operational staff too, he said.

He said the move by the divisional police chief was in line with the government policy and the orders of the Punjab Inspector General of police, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera.

In other government departments too, no employee could stay at a seat for more than three years, he added.

According to sources in the police department, several police officials had been transferred to other departments but they had been performing their duties on the post of their choice as neither the RPO nor the CPO could send them to their original posting.

Some of the police personnel who had already been transferred to operational wings or other districts had started trying to use their influence with the IGP or the RPO to get the posting of their choice once again.

According to the sources, the three-member committee is likely to finalise the list on Saturday and present it to the RPO for further action.

“It is a good move by the RPO which would improve policing, provided it is implemented in letter and spirit,” a senior police official said, adding that it will also give an opportunity to all others who had been working in the office and will now do the policing in operational wings.
