Hyderabad traders plan protest against WHT

HYDERABAD: A meeting of traders’ organisations held at the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) on Thursday decided to observe a strike on Aug 1 against the imposition of withholding tax and resolved that if the decision was not withdrawn by the government, another strike would be observed on Aug 5.

Presiding over the meeting, HCCI president Goharullah said that Hyderabad’s business community is with traders on the issue of withholding tax on bank transactions.

Double taxation is hurting the industrial sector, and the government should take measures to reduce the tax burden on businesses, the traders said.

Anjuman Tajiran Hyderabad president Saleem Hussain Vohra and Anjuman Tajiran (Sindh zone) chief Haji Zaheeruddin rejected the withholding tax and demanded of the government to withdraw the decision. They said that levy of this tax would encourage cash dealings.

Others who spoke included Rasool Bux Shaikh, Ikramuddin, Mehmood Ali Rajput, Azam Chohan, Abdul Qayoom Nusrat, Haji Ismail Shaikh, Aslam Khan Deswali, Shakir Memon, Haji Sharif and others.
