PBSF stipend for leading cueists

KARACHI: After introducing monthly monetary incentive for the top eight cueists some seven years back, the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) has set another example by paying stipend of Rs5,000 per month to the top four junior cueists, Dawn has learnt.

The top four juniors who are getting the stipend for the past sometime include reigning national junior champion Mohammad Faheem, losing finalist Abdul Raheem, and the two semi-finalists – Amir Tariq and Noman Iqbal.

Of the quartet, Amir has made his mark in the 40th national snooker championship by making the top 16 cut (pre quarter-finals) by attaining 16th spot.

Raheem, Noman and Faheem finished 22nd, 24th and 41st in the country’s premier national championship of the game.

It is pertinent to mention that the PBSF took a step forward when it introduced slab system for top eight players of the national ranking chart aimed at providing incentive.

Under the system, the No 1 gets Rs8,000, No 2 Rs7,000 and No 3 to 5 Rs5,000 apiec.
