FBR asked to speed up payment of refund claims

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday demanded of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expedite settlement of stuck-up sales tax and income tax refund claims of the export-oriented sectors.

LCCI Vice-President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said the FBR was delaying release of billions of rupees sales tax and income tax refunds causing serious liquidity crunch and hampering growth of the most productive sectors.

He said the authorities concerned should take realistic view of the matter and allow the refunds to exporters and manufacturers at the earliest.

He said the process was so cumbersome that sometimes it took months to get refunds. “It is a matter of concern that despite clear instructions of the finance minister to release refunds at the earliest, the FBR is using dilly-dallying tactics and creating hurdles for the business community, he added.
