IS-claimed bombing kills four in Yemen capital

SANAA: A car bombing claimed by the self-styled Islamic State (IS) militant group killed four people near a Shia mosque in the rebel-controlled Yemeni capital Sanaa, the Shia rebels said Tuesday.

Several children were also among eight people wounded in the Monday evening blast, the rebel-controlled Saba news agency said.

The IS group has carried out a string of deadly attacks against Shia targets in Yemen since March.

The Houthi rebels, who overran Sanaa last September, also lost 11 fighters in other attacks in the capital overnight, medics and witnesses said.

Six were killed in a shooting at a checkpoint near the central bank. Five were killed in a car bombing against a police station in the Al-Hassaba district in the north of the city.

The attacks came as the rebels were driven out of the second city of Aden by a week-old offensive by loyalists of exiled President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi.
