Chiniot to stop academic activities in 68 schools

CHINIOT: The district administration has decided to discontinue after summer vacation academic activities in 68 school buildings damaged during the 2014 floods.

A meeting of the education department earlier this week was told that out of these 68 buildings, 10 were the most dangerous.

The buildings department has estimated the repair and maintenance cost of these 10 schools at Rs 41 million and for rest of the 58 buildings at Rs163 million.

Buildings were damaged in 2014 floods

The district government had sent the report along with repair estimates to the secretary, Schools Education Department, Punjab; and additional secretary, Planning and Monitoring Cell of the Chief Minister, soon after the flood receded in 2014.

But so far the Punjab government could not allocate funds for the repair of these schools.

The president of the Punjab Teachers Union, Chiniot, has criticised the Punjab government for not repairing these buildings during the last one year.
