Breaking great Miandad’s record will be special: Younis

KARACHI: Pakistan’s record-breaking middle-order batsman Younis Khan on Friday said that while the Almighty Allah has been very kind to him during his achievements in the game, reaching the great Javed Miandad’s tally of runs remained a special target in his career.

“Records do not matter much to me, but earning more victories for my country is of paramount importance,” said Younis while speaking to the media. “God has been extremely kind to me throughout my career and I hope I could play a few more years for my country and lead them to more victories.”

Commenting on the landmarks that he cherished during his career, the affable Peshawar-born batsman said breaking Miandad’s record of runs could be a special target in his career.

“Javed bhai remains the greatest Pakistan batsman of all time, no question about it,” said Younis. “I used to admire him during my school days and he was way out the best player around who took on the best of opposition with such ease and with such a gutsy approach. Nobody comes close to him in greatness as a player and I will feel truly honoured if I could break his record of mosr runs for Pakistan.”

Younis, who already holds Pakistan record of 30 Test hundreds, has a current tally of 8814 Test runs to his name and needs just 19 more runs to eclipse Miandad’s all-time high aggregate of 8832 for Pakistan.
