Two-day ban on pillion-riding

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday imposed a ban on pillion-riding in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur for two days for the security of Yaum-i-Ali processions that are taken out on the 21st of Ramazan, an official said.

The official at the Sindh home department said that the provincial administration on the advice of police authorities banned pillion-riding under Section 144 (power to issue order absolute at once in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger) of the criminal procedure code and the ban would be effective from Wednesday midnight for two days — July 8 and 9.

“The ban shall not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcing agencies and security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services,” the official added.
