Sugar becomes dearer in Taxila

TAXILA: The price of sugar has started shooting up in Taxila and is at present selling at Rs70 per kilogramme.

Consumers complained that as a limited quantity of sugar was available in the sasta Ramazan bazaar, its price in the open market had gone up by Rs8.

The retailers have turned out to be the main beneficiaries of the price hike as many of them after procuring stocks at Rs62-Rs33 per kg are now selling it at Rs70 per kg.

The residents criticised the price escalation and said they would take to the streets if the government failed to take measures to stabilise the prices.

Asim Meer, a social worker, said the government should look into the cause of the increase of Rs8 per kilogramme in the sugar price during the last a few days.

Instead of providing relief to the citizens in the holy month, the sugar price has been increased from Rs62 per kilogramme to Rs70 per kilogramme.

He demanded the government take immediate steps for stabilising the price.
