Fareed retains lead

LAHORE: After two of the three-segment Ramadan Golf Tournament contested at the par-72 Royal Palm Golf Course on Saturday, the man in command of the leaderboard was Fareed Bajwa who retained the lead with a second segment nine holes score of net 32.

In the first segment last week, Fareed completed the nine holes by carding net 31 and with a second segment score of net 32 he has a two-segment aggregate score of net 63, nine under-par.

With consistency, he appears all set to capture the Ramadan Golf Trophy which concludes next week.

Ready and determined to upstage him in the final go is Munawar Aftab, currently placed one stroke behind Fareed.

In the first segment last week, Munawar was bracketed with Fareed as a leader but this week he fell behind by the narrowest of margins. Munawar managed a score of net 31 in the first segment and in the second segment he managed a net 33, which gives him an aggregate score of net 64, eight-under-par for the two segments.

As the scores stand, it will be a great battle for supremacy between these two aspirants in the final segment next week.

As regards the other contenders, they are placed many strokes behind and even if they excel in the final segment, they are likely to achieve positions other than the top one.

In this connection Ahmed Buksh has an aggregate score of net 71 (39+32), Imran Mairaj is at 72 (37+35), Sharjeel Awan at 72 (38+34) and so is Saeed-ul-Haseeb at 72 (38+34).

Other positions down the leader board are held by Waqar Butt, Faisal Sayid, Tanveer Karamat and Humayun Mian.
