Relief package for families of slain policemen

LAHORE: The Punjab government has accorded approval to a revised relief package for the families of the police officials of all ranks, taking the financial and other incentives to a maximum level for laying down lives during bomb blasts, terrorism, riots and police encounters.

IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera issued a notification in this regard, says a handout issued on Friday.

According to the notification, from constable to head-constable, a family will be entitled to get Rs5 million relief package -- Rs1 million for house and Rs4 million for welfare.

Similarly, from ASI to sub-inspector, a family will get Rs7 million relief package -- Rs2 million for house and Rs5 million for welfare. Inspector to DSP’s family will be entitled to get Rs9 million relief package -- Rs3 million for house and Rs6 million for welfare.

SP or SSP’s family will be entitled to get Rs12 million -- Rs4 million for house and Rs8 million for welfare -- and the family of a DIG and above rank will be entitled to get Rs15 million relief package -- Rs5 million for house and Rs10 million for welfare.

Besides, such families will also get full salaries along with the annual increment till his/her superannuation age. They will also be entitled to full pension.

According to the new package, children of constable to sub-inspector rank will be inducted in the police department at any post of grade 1 to 7 and children of inspector and above rank officers could be recruited as sub-inspectors.

Free education will be provided to the children of police personnel from primary to postgraduate level and all expenses will be borne by the Punjab government.
