Defence secretary summoned in ‘abduction’ case

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday summoned the secretary defence in a case related to the alleged abduction of a lawyer along with another man allegedly involved in the murder of FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar.

Justice Siddiqui on July 1 besides issuing a notice to the secretary defence had ordered the director general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to depute an officer not below the rank of director to assist the court in the case. However, when the court resumed the hearing on Friday, no one from the spy agency was present in the courtroom.

The inspector general of the capital police informed the court that the intelligence agency had clarified that they did not have any information about the abductees. He, however, requested the court to grant the police a week to locate the missing persons.

Hammad Dadan Advocate was allegedly abducted by unknown men on the night of June 20 along with his cousin Abdullah Umar and Ammar Dadan.

Umar is allegedly involved in FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar’s murder. He was released on bail in July last year but is currently facing trial in the Anti-Terrorism Court, Islamabad.

The petition for the recovery of Mr Dadan and others was filed by advocate Mumtaz Anwar Abbasi, the father of Mr Dadan.

The petitioner said his son along with three friends went to a mosque near Pims for Taraweeh prayers on June 20 where some people arrested them. However, Ahmed was released later.
