Police officials given biometric machines

SAHIWAL: Sixteen station house officers (SHO) and CIA staffers have got training on using biometric machines to track down criminals.

The machines linked with Nadra will be used for verification of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) at pickets. Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Bilal was the trainer at the DPO office.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Baqir told Dawn the machines would help police officials know the identity of the people without CNICs at pickets and police stations.

Up to 21 machines were distributed among SHOs and CIA staff and each police station would get one machine.

Police sources said 1,000 biometric machines were given to Punjab police. The machines were checked at Qadhafi Stadium during cricket matches in May.

“The device is modern with accurate results,” the DPO added.

Trainer Bilal said people used to lodge cases with fake identity cards but machines would help police officials check data before registration of cases.
