Hardened gunman killed

GUJRANWALA: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) officials killed on Friday hardened gunman Zafarullah, alias Zafri Butt, in an encounter while his accomplice escaped.

CIA Superintendent of Police Tahir Maqsood Cheena said Zafar, of Lohianwala, had killed his sister, brother-in-law and other people, 10 in all.

On Friday, he snatched a motorcycle from Amanullah in People’s Colony. When police signaled him at a picket, he opened fire at them. When police returned the fire, he was killed. Police seized a pistol on him while his accomplice fled.

The government had announced a Rs1 million head money on him.

LIFE TERM: Anti-Terrorism Court No1 Judge Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmad handed down on Friday life term on four counts and Rs400,000 fine to Muhammad Sadiq for the murder of four people of Kharian.

He will have to undergo one year more imprisonment on defaulting on fine payment. According to the prosecution, Sadiq killed Amin, Younus, Iqbal and Haroon in 2007.
