Sindh police take back decision to change DIG-East

KARACHI: The Sindh police on Friday posted a senior official back to his position as DIG-East following strong criticism from different circles on his transfer that it could affect the investigation into some crucial cases, including the Baldia Town factory fire.

DIG Munir Sheikh, who was replaced by Asif Ejaz Sheikh a few days ago, was reappointed as DIG-East.

“After his transfer questions were raised from different quarters criticising the Sindh police decision,” said an official. “The fresh order to appoint him back as DIG-East seems a kind of response to those reactions as the high-ups decided to retain him on the position he got when the Karachi operation was launched in September 2013.”

Meanwhile, IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali set up the Sindh Police Services Welfare Management Board on Friday for devising a welfare policy of the officers and personnel of the police. “The Sindh IG would head the board,” it said.
