Sarwar shrugs off grouping in PTI

LAHORE: Groupings in a political party are a world-wide phenomena and there is nothing serious about it, says Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Punjab organiser, Chaudhry Sarwar.

Earlier, in Monday’s party meeting chairman Imran Khan had expressed his concerns about groupings and had also warned all party formations to unite or “give all local body seats to the PML-N voluntarily”.

He had also warned that undisciplined party workers and leaders would be removed after one warning if they did not mend their ways.

Speaking at official launch of PTI’s campaign for the upcoming local election in Punjab, on Wednesday, Sarwar said the party chairman had said so in a lighter vein. In the same breath, he said he had reorganised the party in most parts of the province and ended groupings by 90 per cent.

Sarwar announced the Punjab PTI had begun the local councils election campaign by seeking applications for party tickets from July 1 to 15 and the application form had been uploaded on party’s website.

He said selected candidates would be awarded tickets till July 30 and appeals would be entertained till Aug 3. The final list of PTI candidates would be displayed on Aug 10.

In consultation with the party chief as well as central and national organisers, the PTI Punjab organiser said local government candidate selection boards had been constituted to award tickets for the LG elections. He said the boards would be headed by PTI’s National Assembly or Punjab Assembly potential candidate of the respective constituency. He said candidates would be selected in due consultation with respective constituency leaders and workers.

He said executive councils had also been constituted at district and city levels, which would constitute tehsil executive councils for decentralisation.
