Khyber youth form body to raise education awareness

LANDI KOTAL: A group of educated youths in Landi Kotal has formed the Landi Kotal Education Society to spread public awareness of education and check cheating in examinations.

Members of the society told a seminar at Islamia School and College, Landi Kotal, on Tuesday that the initiative would also help provide guidance to students, who recently passed matriculation and intermediate examinations, on further education.

They informed participants about admission criteria of different colleges.

The society members expressed concern about the growing incidence of cheating during examinations and urged school administrations and teachers to help them check the trend.

They also asked people to enrol their children in schools to increase literacy rate in tribal areas.

The society members complained about lack of facilities and shortage of female teachers at local schools.

They said they were striving with the help of teaching staff to create a conducive atmosphere at educational institutions, especially those run by government, for students.

Students, local elders and civil society members attended the event in large numbers.

Meanwhile, four students of the Army Public School and College were injured when a school van overturned near Landi Kotal railway station on Tuesday.

The school management said the accident was caused by traffic rush.

It said the injured included Tanveer Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Yasir Khan and Mohammad Sudais.

Also in the day, Frontier Crops personnel seized six non-custom paid taxis at Michni checkpost.

The taxis used to ply from Torkham border to Landi Kotal Bazaar.
