Appeals against delimitation in Toba

TOBA TEK SINGH: After the completion of the proposed delimitation of union councils and wards, the process of filing appeals ahead of the local government elections is in progress.

District Election Commissioner Mian Akbar Ali said on Tuesday appeals had been received against delimitation of 12 union councils so far.

He said appeals could be filed till July 6 in Faisalabad before election commission’s judge Javed Rasheed Mahboobi.

He said the union councils and wards had been proposed on the basis of census of 1998. For the upcoming local government elections, 85 union councils had been set up for rural areas and 118 wards for urban areas.

PENALTIES: Seven teachers of government schools have been terminated from service for prolonged absence while 69 teachers have been fined for habitual absence from duty.

This was stated by District Monitoring Officer Asif Ali Dogar at the district education review committee meeting chaired by Additional District Collector Zeeshan Shabbir Rana. He said the monitoring teams inspected 1,207 schools of the district in May and 93pc attendance of teachers and 90pc attendance of students were found in the schools.

Officials said Rs387.9 million had been spent on provision of missing facilities in 655 schools.

EDO (Education) Rao Attiqur Rehman and heads of other departments concerned were present.

LIFE TERM: Kamalia Additional District and Sessions Judge Sardar Iqbal Dogar handed down on Tuesday life imprisonment to two brothers Aslam and Zahoor and Rs200,000 fine to each in a murder case.

The court acquitted co-accused Shakoor, Iftikhar and Ghulam Rasool as the prosecution failed to prove charges against them. The two brothers had shot dead Zafar Hussain two years ago over enmity at Chak 765-GB.

SHOT DEAD: A youngster was shot dead and his brother injured by their rivals in Gojra on Tuesday.

The Gojra Saddar police said Dilawar Hussain and Qaiser Hussain were going to Chak 438-JB when their rivals attacked them. Dilawar died on the spot while Qaiser was taken to the THQ hospital in a critical condition.
