Speculation about Scotland Yard team’s arrival

ISLAMABAD: Rumours that a Scotland Yard investigation team had arrived in the country — ostensibly to interrogate suspects in the Imran Farooq murder case — were circulating on Saturday.

A list of six British citizens shared on social media and TV channels showed the team, which included two women, had arrived at around 7am on an Emirates flight.

An official from Benazir Bhutto International Airport told Dawn that a group of British citizens was received by British officials and law-enforcement personnel.

However, Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed said police were not informed about the arrival of such a delegation.

Interior ministry officials and diplomatic sources did not confirm the development either. When asked to comment, a spokesperson for the British High Commission said, “The commission does not officially comment on the activities of Scotland Yard.”

However, in background discussions, a couple of sources at the British mission to Pakistan told Dawn that the team had not yet arrived and indicated that they may be due sometime next week.
