Two die of heatstroke in Landhi jail

KARACHI: Two prisoners have died due to heatstroke at the Landhi Jail on Friday.

According to jail administration, two inmates Naeem Raza and Ameen succumbed to the searing heat as power supply had been suspended in the jail boundary since 2 AM.

The administration said that several complaints have been submitted to K-Electric, but there has been no response.

Four other prisoners at the jail are also suffering from ill health owing to the excessive heat, with the jail administration fearing more deaths.

According to official figures, 1,040 people have died in Karachi since Saturday and 76 in other parts of Sindh due to heatstroke in the past week.

Sindh has witnessed the unprecedented high temperature with the mercury shooting to 45 degrees Celsius.KE has been strictly criticised by several segments, in and outside the national and Sindh assemblies.
