Holiday in Sindh today

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday announced a holiday across the province for Wednesday amid the punishing heatwave and power crisis that have so far claimed more than 780 lives as the chief minister and his cabinet announced a plan to hold a sit-in against K-Electric and the federal government, an official said.

The decision was taken by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah because of the searing temperature in the province so that people could avoid leaving homes, Special Assistant to the Sindh chief minister Waqar Mehdi told Dawn.

Meanwhile, a spokesman said that after the Sindh Assembly session the chief minister other members of the treasury benches would hold token sit-in inside the assembly building in protest against the federal government and K-Electric for their failure to meet the province’s power requirement.
