Pipe maker moves NTC against cheap imports

ISLAMABAD: A local manufacturer of seamless pipes/tubes has approached the National Tariff Commission (NTC) for seeking protection against cheap imports.

The NTC said that the commission received an application from M/s Huffaz Seamless Pipe Industries, Karachi, requesting that customs duty on import of its major inputs — special steel round bars and other raw material — may be reduced to zero per cent and customs duty on its finished product, seamless pipe/tubes may be increased to 25pc.

The local manufacturer has further requested withdrawal of regulatory duty at the rate of 15pc on its inputs and removal of seamless pipes/tubes from Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

A public hearing on the issue is scheduled to be held on June 25 in the Committee Room of NTC.
