Bajaur students protest cancellation of exam results

KHAR: Scores of students here on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against the management of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Chakdara for cancellation of their results on the basis of unfair means cases in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

Chanting slogans against the management of the board, a large number of students of various schools participated in the protest. The protesters also blocked Khar-Timergara Road for an hour to vehicular traffic.

Addressing the protesters, the student leaders condemned cancellation of results of a number of students in the agency by the management of BISE Chakdara.

They alleged that cases against the students were filed without proper evidence.

Say registration of cases meant to defame local educational institutions

They claimed that results of a large number of students were cancelled while scores of students were fined and disqualified for several exams.

They said that cancellation of results and other penalties by the board officials disappointed the students and would affect their future negatively.

They said that the decision of the board management to cancel the results and award penalties to students was a matter of serious concern for them and their parents. The act would deprive students of education, they added.

They claimed that unfair means cases against the students in the recent exams was part of a plan to demoralise the students and defame educational institutions in the agency.

“We know who are behind this conspiracy but we would continue our efforts to promote education in our area as education is the most powerful tool for the development of agency,” the protesting students said.

The protesters alleged that some officials of the board were responsible for registering false unfair means cases against the poor students of the agency for not giving ‘proper protocol’ to them during their examination duty. They demanded of the senior officials of the board to withdraw the cases against the students and announce their results immediately.

The protesting students also appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and chairman of the board to take notice of the matter and withdraw cases against the students.

According to the officials of local education department, results of several students of different schools were cancelled for using unfair means during the exams.

An official of the education department told Dawn that Governor Model School Khar was the most affected institution, where results of at least 98 students were cancelled.

A senior teacher of the school said that results of 98 students out of 177 of grade 10th were cancelled as unfair means cases were registered against them. He claimed that cases against the students of his school were registered without proper evidence of using of unfair means during the exams.

The teacher said that the school along with other educational institutions had submitted appeals with the board against the penalties awarded to the students.
