Tennis event reaches semis stage

LAHORE: A good number of quarter-finals in different categories were held in the inaugural SNGPL All-Pakistan Men and Women Tennis Championships at the Cosmopolitan Club, Bagh-i-Jinnah here on Tuesday.

The quarter-finals in the boys U-18, men’s doubles, and women’s singles were held.

In the boys’ U-18 quarter-finals, Yo­u­suf Khan and Abdaal Haider were stretched to full three sets be­fore both of them beat their res­pective rivals. Yousuf ousted Hamza bin Asif 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-4, while Haider overcame Asadullah 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Muzammil Murtaza and Haris Irfaullah had an easy sailing in other two last-eight matches.

In women’s singles, Khusna Babar, Esha Jawad, Rimsha Nawaz and Noor Malik made the semi-finals comfortably after winning their respective quarter-finals.

Boys U-18:

Muzammil Murtaza bt Sohaib Omer 6-2, 6-3; Haris Irfanullah bt Huzaifa Abdul Rehman 6-1, 6-1; Yousuf Khan bt Hamza bin Asif 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-4; Abdaal Haider bt Asadullah 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Men’s doubles:

Yasir Khan/Shahzad Khan bt Mohammad Abid/Usman Rafique 6-4, 6-4; Ahmed Babar/Faizan Khurram bt Waqas Malik/Abdaal Haider 7-5, 6-4; Aqeel Khan/Heera Ashiq bt Ejaz Khan/Rashid Khan 6-2, 6-2; Muzammil Murtaza/Mudassar bt Irfanullah/Shahzad 3-5, 6-4, 10-5 (super tiebreak).

Women’s singles:

Khusna Babar bt Oreen Wazir 6-1, 6-0; Esha Jawad bt Nadia bt 6-0, 6-2; Rimsha Nawaz bt Khadija Shoaib 6-2, 6-3; Noor Malik bt Maheen Khan 6-0, 6-1.
