MANSEHRA: The body of another missing election candidate has been found from Garung Battian area of Battagram district.

Police sources said that unknown assailants shot and killed Nisar Ahmad Mujahid, the contender for the slots of district and tehsil councils of Battagram district from Kozabanda area, and later abandoned his body at a deserted place.

The body was taken to the district headquarters hospital and handed over to family after autopsy on Thursday.

Earlier, the body of another candidate vying for Battagram district council, Sher Mohammad, was found in Buttle area of Mansehra district.

Police sources said that Mr Mujahid was the secretary general of Shabab-i-Milli Battagram, and also previously served as secretary general of Jamaat-i-Islami, Battagram chapter. He was contesting LG elections on JI ticket.

The sources said the deceased was kidnapped by unknown people on May 19.

The election commission has also postponed the local government elections in the wards and union councils where the deceased candidates were contesting the elections.

The Kozabanda police after registering FIR started investigation to apprehend the killers of Mr Mujahid.

POLLING STAFF, MATERIAL DISPATCHED: Polling staff, ballot papers, boxes and other material have been dispatched to different areas of the district for the today’s (Saturday) local body elections.

A total of 8,000 polling staff, including presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers, have been assigned the election duties across the district were 819,000 men and women voters would cast their vote.

The polling staff was gathered at postgraduate college for boys, Doraha. The vehicles which were impounded by police were also used to pick and drop men and women polling staff.

The district retuning officer, Aamer Khattak, oversaw the entire process of dispatch of election material and staff to the polling stations.
