ISLAMABAD: Weak African High – the term used by meteorologists for strong winds coming from East Africa through the Middle East to southern Balochistan – has helped slow down inflow of warm winds in the country.

“At the same time, the Indian High which is the flow of moisture rich winds from Arabian sea into Indian Gujarat has been delayed,” a Met Office official said.

“These factors allowed slow moving cool winds from the west and north west to decent into Pakistan.”

The Met Office has predicted similar conditions in the upcoming month of June and the first week.

At present, the country, including some parts of Balochistan, is enjoying the cool breeze of shallow westerly wave, coming from Afghanistan and Central Asia.

The western winds not only made the weather conditions pleasant in the twin cities with traces of rainfall in Rawalpindi on Friday but many areas of north and west of the country received rainfall.

Maximum rainfall was received in Dir, 12 mm, while Barkhan and Sibbi areas of Balochistan received 8 and 7mm of rain.

Since warm winds coming from the south have been slow, the westerly wave penetrated deep inside the country to reach South Punjab too.

Cloudy weather will prevail in many areas on Saturday and the Met Office has predicted traces of rainfall in Hazara, Peshawar and Rawalpindi.
