Pakistan A survive Iran B scare in Asian snooker

Karachi: After putting up magnificent performance by routing India A straight 3-0 on Thursday evening, Pakistan’s second string fell prey to Afghanistan 1-3 in the third Asian Team Event snooker championship at Kish Island, Iran, on Friday.

Having beaten Iran C in the opener 3-1, Pakistan B duo that comprised Hamza Akbar and Shahram Changezi sent shock waves by prevailing over superior Indian A side. The Pakistani pair was home 94-32, 64-40, 53-40 to consolidate their position.

However, Afghanistan halted their winning run coasting to an authoritative 3-1 victory (88-8, 24-91, 102-1, 62-37) in their third game.

The last year’s runners-up pair of Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad of Pakistan A survived a scare by getting the better of Iran B 3-2 in the fully stretched battle.

Pakistan A won the duel 69-0, 18-78, 108-0, 36-68, 64-34. This was their second straight win as they had beaten Iraq in the opening game.

Pakistan A bt Iran B 3-2 (69-0, 18-78, 108-0, 36-68, 64-34).

Afghanistan bt Pakistan B 3-1 (88-8, 24-91, 102-1, 62-37)

Thursday’s remaining result:

Pakistan B bt India A 3-0 (94-32, 64-40, 53-40).
