Law on mandatory iodised salt

LAHORE: The Punjab health department has decided to make legislation for mandatory salt iodisation along with Micronutrient Initiative (MI).

Talking to media after attending a conference of members of Punjab Assembly held under the aegis of Micronutrient Initiative here on Thursday, Adviser to chief minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said he had asked the Micronutrient Initiative to help them prepare the draft of the bill which would be tabled in the house for approval, says a press release.

He claimed that the expected bill would be presented in the assembly within two months.

Earlier talking to the parliamentarians, Salman Rafiq and Parliamentary Secretary Imran Nazir agreed on the importance of salt iodisation and its impact on the population.

They assured the participants to play their role for getting the legislation approved by Punjab Assembly for mandatory salt iodisation.

They also promised for enforcement of the law on Universal Salt Iodisation.
