Cut in import duty on bike spare parts sought

KARACHI: All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (APMSPIDA) on Thursday urged the government to reduce the import duty from 35 per cent to 20pc on spare parts and abolish 15pc additional duty in upcoming budget to discourage smuggling.

In a letter to the prime minister and the finance minister, APMSPIDA Chairman Faisal Khalil stated that the government was collecting around Rs4 billion on legal imports of spare parts, but was also losing identical amount of revenue due to high tariff which encouraged parts smuggling through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan borders.
