Robbers deprive money changer of Rs5.7m

PESHAWAR: Robbers on Tuesday deprived a money changer of Rs5.7 million at gunpoint in Shah Qabool area here.

Gul Zaib, money changer in Sarafa Bazaar, said that he was near his house in Shah Ghazi Street when two robbers riding a bike came there and snatched Rs5.7 million from him at gunpoint. He added that the robbers immediately disappeared from the scene.

A case was registered in Shah Qabool police station.

A police official said Gul Zaib had drawn the amount from a bank located in Peshawar Saddar, adding that it appeared that the robbers were chasing Mr Zaib.

It is worth mentioning here that a few days back robbers had snatched more than 100 tola gold from a jeweller’s shop in Sarafa Bazaar at gunpoint.

The robbery triggered protest and traders blocked the busy road outside the Lady Reading Hospital to condemn police helplessness against the robbers.

The traders said that robberies at gunpoint had become common feature, creating a sense of insecurity among them.
