Businessman’s nephew killed in IED blast

GHALANAI: Nephew of a businessman was killed in an attack here on Monday.

Political administration officials and local residents said unknown armed men attacked house of Haji Bughdad Shah in Durbakhel area of Haleemzai tehsil late on Sunday night resulting in serious injuries to his nephew, Jamil Khan. They said the injured succumbed while being taken to hospital. The attackers managed to escape.

It was the second attack on house of Bughdad Shah, a renowned businessman of marble. Earlier hand grenades were hurled on his residence, but the inmates remained unhurt. Sources said he had received threatening letters from extortionists.

After the incident the security forces, levies and Khassadar personnel conducted a joint search operation in the area to arrest the attackers. During the search, an IED blast took place, but the law-enforcers remained unhurt.

The security forces arrested 17 persons under collective responsibility clause of the FCR during the search.

Meanwhile, in the same area, a former senator Abdul Wahid escaped unhurt when an IED targeted his vehicle, which was partially damaged in the blast. Abdul Wahid is the uncle of MNA Malak Bilalur Rehman and Senator Hilalur Rehman.

Meanwhile, five peace volunteers were injured in separate IED blasts in Safi tehsil on Monday.
