18 injured in school van accident

KASUR: At least 18 people, including14 students and three teachers, were injured when their school van turned turtle near Phoolnagar on the Multan Road on Sunday.

According to details, the van of a private school of Arifwala was going on a recreational tour to Head Baloki. When it reached near Nathay Khalsa, its tie rod broke and the driver lost control over the wheel. The van turned turtle, causing injuries to students and teachers.

The injured students included Sumaira, Shumaila, Munira, Rabia, Shahnaz and teachers were identified as Asim Ali, Farah Bibi and Bushra. Driver Imran was also injured. All the students are between 8 to 12 years of age.

Rescue 1122 and locals took the injured out of the van and shifted them to the Rural Health Centre Phoolnagar.

BOOKED: The chief warden of district jail and four other jail officials were booked by B-Division police on the charge of beating an undertrial prisoner to death.

According to complainant, Shahzad Ahmed, his son Haider Ali, 19, was in the district jail in a narcotics case. He fell sick and the court ordered his release on parole on May 20. But, Chief Warden Rana Yousaf and four other jail officials tortured Ali before leaving him at his home in a bad condition, he alleged. Ali was rushed to DHQ Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
