MQM seeks Rs10bn package for Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A member of the coordination committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, MNA Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has said the MQM will launch protests with the first on June 5 at Kohinoor Chowk against myriads of civic problems the second largest city of the province faces.

He said at a press conference here on Sunday, the party would continue to protest until all problems were resolved. The city immediately required at least Rs10 billion package to address the nagging issues of contaminated drinking water, crumbling sewerage system and deteriorating health and education facilities, he said. He said that the city’s representatives continued to raise voice against these issues, tabled motions and resolutions in assemblies but rulers were unwilling to pay attention. If their suggestions were not being entertained, they must take to the streets along with people to stage protest, he said.
