Enraged boy throws grenade at family, killing brother, injuring six

TIMERGARA: A teenaged boy was killed and six others of the same family, including his father and mother, were injured when another brother hurled a hand grenade at them after exchange of harsh words in Munda here on Friday.

Residents and police said that two brothers, Wasif and Tayyab, quarreled on a mobile phone set in Mandezo village. According to police, Tayyab hurled a hand grenade, reportedly lying at home, which exploded with a bang, killing Wasif, 14, on the spot, and injuring six other family members, including his father, Fazal Hanan, mother, brother Junaid, 11, a two-month-old child, Usman Ghani, and two girls. The injured were shifted to DHQ hospital, Timergara, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The Munda police registered a case and started further investigations.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and three injured in a road accident in Jango area in the jurisdiction of Ouch police station.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Zamin, and the inured, Hamad, driver, and a teacher of Malakand University, Gul Zamin Khan.

Sources said the driver lost control over the car due to over-speeding when it reached a sharp turn at Jango area. It was going to Batkhela from Ketyari. The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital, Batkhela, where condition of Hamad was stated to be critical. The police registered a case and began investigations.

JI POSITION STRENGTHENED: The position of Jamaat-i-Islami in Lower Dir strengthened on Friday as dozens of influential families on Friday announced to join the party in different wards of the district.

In Shahikhel Talash ward, 72 people from the PPP and ANP announced to support the JI candidates in the May 30 local government elections. Similarly, elders of 28 families in Bandagai Talash ward announced to join the JI. In Nawy Kalay area of Timergara urban council, several PPP workers also announced to quit their party and join the JI.

The announcements were made during different functions at Goro Talash, Bandagai Talash and Nawy Kaly Timergara. The functions were attended by party workers and elders.

The JI leaders welcomed the newcomers and promised to work hard for supply of gas, provision of clean drinking water, pavement of streets, construction of playgrounds for youth and installation of streetlights in Timergara, Talash and Chakdara.
