Army, PAF and Sindh make netball semis

ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Army joined the PAF and Sindh in the semi-finals lineup for the 14th National Men’s Netball Championship here at Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday.

Saturday’s first match between Wapda and Punjab will decide the fourth semi-finalist team.

However, the day’s best match was played between Sindh and Police, which the former won 34-28.

Sindh led the first quarter 8-4. In the second, both teams played aggressively. Sindh added seven more goals while Police registered five.

Police then made a good comeback in the third quarter and managed to end it 12-12, still trailing by six goals though.

Both teams played quality game in the final quarter, ending it 7-7 but the Sindh team in the final aggregate were ahead by six goals.

Sindh’s Faisal Awan scored 30 goals while Police’s striker Zahid Sultan collected 21.

In another close match, the PAF defeated Punjab 37-30. Mohammad Akhtar of the PAF claimed 34 goals while Punjab’s Shahid Masih scored 23.

Earlier, Army defeated Police 36-24 while Sindh convincingly defeated Islamabad 32-17.

Meanwhile, Wapda taught Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a netball lesson, comfortably winning the match 62-3.

In another match, the PAF defeated the HEC 35-23 and in the day’s last clash, Fata downed Islamabad 29-23.
