Code of conduct violations

PESHAWAR: The district administration of Peshawar has asked the candidates to remove within 24 hours all the banners displayed at various places in violation of the code of conduct issued for the local government elections.

Speaking at a meeting of the candidates and government officials here on Thursday, deputy commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud asked the candidates to strictly follow the code of conduct and help maintain law and order situation.

He asked the candidates to remove all the banners and posters above the permitted size otherwise action would be taken against them. For this purpose, the returning officers have also been issued directives to implement the code of conduct.

The meeting was attended by district office-bearers of various political parties, independent candidates, returning officers and officials of other relevant government departments. The candidates were asked to avoid hate speeches and distribution of such material otherwise they would be disqualified for the elections. They were also directed to avoid replacement of banners and posters of other candidates. Those found guilty of removing posters and banners of other candidates would have to face action under the relevant law.

The deputy commissioner said that action would be taken in case any candidate or his supporters were found guilty of firing in the air, especially on the day of polling and results.
