Dera Murad Jamali to meet Karachi in PCB U-16 event final

KARACHI: Unheralded Dera Murad Jamali made history on Thursday by reaching the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 Tournament final after cantering to a 10-wicket rout of Bahawalpur at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

In the title-deciding clash, which will be a three-day game, starting on Saturday at the same venue, the giant-killers will take on Karachi, who qualified on the basis of first-innings lead in the drawn semi-final against Peshawar.

After taking their overnight score from 107-2 to 267 all out in 70 overs to secure a handy 68-run lead on the first innings on the second and final day, Dera Murad Jamali dismissed Bahawalpur for a paltry 92.

Needing just 25, the side from the Naseerabad district of Balochistan, completed the last rites in only four overs.

Dera Murad Jamali owed their semi-final victory to all-rounder Fahad Hussain who hit a brilliant 143 off 161 balls with the aid of 18 boundaries and one six apart from taking five wickets in the match.

In the other semi-final at the adjacent Bohranwali Ground, Karachi took a first-innings lead of 27 runs after bowling out Peshawar for 227 in 68.3 overs. Salman Khan was the mainstay of Peshawar’s innings with a patient knock of 90 during which he faced exactly 200 balls.

Aarish Kaimkhani claimed four more wickets on Thursday to finish with 6-99.

Karachi then collected 228-6 in the second innings before the game was called off. Mohammad Usman slammed a quickfire unbeaten 78 off 74 deliveries (10 fours and one six). Tariq Bakht also scored 78 with his 112-ball innings featuring 13 hits to the fence.
