Police chief suspends SP after initial probe

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police Nasir Khan Durrani on Monday suspended Superintendent of Police Peshawar Waheed Khan over links with anti-social elements.

According to a statement issued here, the officer was suspended in light of a preliminary inquiry against him.

A departmental inquiry board consisting of two deputy inspector generals has been formed, while a show cause notice has been given to the suspended SP to defend himself in the case.

Lately, the IGP suspended one SP and several DSPs before sacking some of them over corruption and links with anti-state elements.

According to senior police officials, over 400 police personnel have been punished during the last two years for failing to follow the departmental discipline.

Also in the day, the IGP gave away prizes and merit certificates to 11 investigation officers of the counter-terrorism department for carrying out excellent investigation and ensuring higher conviction rate in criminal cases.

The award-giving ceremony took place at the central police office here.

Among the CTD officers awarded on the occasion were SSP Nisar Ahmad (Peshawar region), DSPs Abdul Ghafoor Khan (Peshawar region) and Mohammad Wali Shah (Malakand region) and inspectors Ghaniur Rehman, Ghaffar Ali and Amir Hussain (Peshawar region), Madad Khan (Mardan region), Aziz Ahmad Khan (Malakand region), Farooq Zaman (Kohat region), Nabi Shah (Bannu region) and Humayun Khan (Hazara region).
