Teachers’ role vital in polio drives

LAHORE: The General Cadre Doctors’ Association, Punjab, has appealed to schoolteachers to play a key role in vaccinating children against the crippling disease in the five-day anti-polio short interval additional dose campaign which is going to be started from May 18. Up to 74 high risk union councils of Lahore will be the focus of this activity, where under 5 children will be vaccinated.

Addressing a seminar on Saturday, GCDA president Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said that only way to eradicate polio from Pakistan was to reach out children for effective and repeated vaccination doses.

Cantt AC Rao Imtiaz, Aziz Bhatti Town TMO Sajjid Ahmad, doctors and representatives of private school associations were present.

Dr Masood said that people should not be worried about repeated polio campaigns as the vaccine had no harmful ingredient.
