‘Hefty’ funds for education in budget: PEF

LAHORE: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja has said that huge funds will be allocated for education in the forthcoming budget.

“The upcoming provincial budget will be historic with regard to promotion of education,” he said on Saturday.

The huge allocation would help ensure 100 per cent enrolment by 2018, he said while elaborating different steps taken for the promotion of education by the government.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has completed the second round of documents collection and agreements signing with the private schools selected for partnership under expansion phase 9 of Foundation Assisted School (FAS) programme in different districts of the province.

Agreements were signed in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi during this round where 312 new partners submitted their documents to the PEF officials and signed agreements, says a handout on Saturday.

“Expansion phase 9 is so far the biggest expansion in public-private partnership based educational programmes for the needy students. FAS is aimed at giving free education to the deserving students in PEF partner schools where they study up to matriculation or secondary school certificate level,” said the handout.
