One killed in Karak mine collapse

KARAK: A miner was killed and two others were injured in the salt mines of Bahaderkhel area here on Monday.

The local people and police said that the miners were busy in routine work inside the mine when it collapsed. As a result, three miners sustained injuries. Other colleagues pulled them from the debris and shifted them to district headquarters hospital, Karak, where one of them identified as Nadeem Khan succumbed to his injuries. The two injured men were admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the workers welfare organisation held a meeting and expressed sorrow over the incident. The meeting was chaired by its district president Naveed Khattak. The participants demanded of the government to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured labourers.

They showed resentment over the lack of facilities at the mines and regretted that the workers were treated like animals by the lease owners. Naveed Khattak said that full compensation had not been paid to the families of those workers who lost their lives or got injured.

WATER FILTRATION PLANT: The elders of Latamber Qaumi Jirga have demanded of the government to make functional the area’s water filtration plant.

The demand was made by the jirga president Sohrab Khan, while addressing a meeting on Monday. He said adviser to chief minister Malik Qasim Khan Khattak had approved construction of the filtration plant for the residents of Latamber union council. However, he alleged that the filtration plant had been constructed at a wrong place as the concerned department didn’t consult local people regarding its location.
