Govt to appoint 6,000 more teachers in KP, says minister

KOHAT: Provincial Law Minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi has said that 6,000 more teachers will be appointed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year in a transparent way.

He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Public Services (RTS) Act’ which was held at Bacha Khan Library here on Saturday. It was also attended by RTS chief commissioner Azmat Hanif Orakzai, commissioner Kohat Jamaluddin Shah, RTS commissioner Attaullah Khan, divisional heads of government departments and notables from Hangu, Karak and Kohat.

The minister said that the PTI-led provincial government had made a record legislation and passed over 73 laws of public interest during the last two years. He said that the government was serious to fulfil its reform agenda and the setting up of Accountability Commission, enforcement of Right to Information Act, and introduction of Conflict of Interest Laws were the steps in this direction.

He termed the RTS Act a revolutionary step and said that under this act the government functionaries had been made answerable before public.

Mr Qureshi announced the establishment of a divisional public service centre in Kohat. Earlier, the RTS chief commissioner asked the people to take advantage of the law and send their feedback. He said that the law was meant for ensuring best delivery of services and good governance in the province.

Jamaluddin Shah asked the people to submit their grievances to the government. He said that they should not fear anybody because the government would provide security to those who wanted to stand for elimination of corruption and bribery at all levels.

BEAUTIFICATION SCHEMES: The Kohat district administration has approved beautification schemes worth Rs27.6 million.

Chairing a meeting at his office, deputy commissioner, Kohat, Kamran Afridi said on Saturday that soon the heads of all relevant departments would be called to start work on the projects, including construction of gates at all the entrances on highways with all the adjoining districts of Kohat, plantation campaign, widening of all sewers and dumping of garbage at a suitable place for keeping the city clean, preservation and protection of district heritage, and construction of monuments and green belts along the roads.

TEACHERS THRASHED: Unidentified militants thrashed the staff of a school in Hameed Kallay of Orakzai Agency on Saturday, warning them to close it immediately.

Official sources told Dawn that four armed militants forcibly entered the government middle school building and threatened staff with killing and kidnapping. They said that the militants also beat up the teachers with batons.

STOLEN CAR SEIZED: The Kohat police seized a car which was stolen from Karachi in 2010 through mobile vehicle verification system and arrested two carjackers on Saturday.

Spokesman for the district police said that the police stopped a suspicious vehicle at the city Pathak and on checking it through the mobile phone handset SMS service they found that the Toyota XLI (AQH-493) had been stolen from Karachi on August 11, 2010. The report about the missing car had been lodged at Sachal police station, Karachi.

The spokesman claimed that the alleged carjackers Almas Khan, Ahmed Khan and Arshad Ahmed admitted during interrogation that they had stolen the vehicle from Karachi and brought it to Orakzai Agency by road. The suspects have been sent to Kohat prison.
