PTI to move resolution against Altaf’s ‘anti-army’ remarks

KARACHI: A resolution will be tabled in the Sindh Assembly against the remarks of Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain for criticising Pakistan Army, said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday.

The MQM chief apologised for his words after the military spokesperson described his remarks “uncalled for and disgusting” and said the matter would be legally pursued.

“We are drafting a resolution against Altaf Hussain’s remarks in which he criticised our army and invited the Indian intelligence agency, RAW [Research and Analysis Wing], to train his party workers,” said Sindh PTI general secretary Syed Hafeezuddin while speaking to Dawn.

He said the PTI expressed solidarity with the army, which was already protecting the country and combating militants on various fronts. He said the resolution was being drafted. “We have not yet finalised it, but we will do it by tomorrow and hand it to the Sindh Assembly’s secretariat by Monday morning,” he added.

Mr Hafeezuddin, one of the four PTI lawmakers in the provincial legislature, said support from other parties having representation in the assembly, including the ruling PPP, would be sought for the resolution.
