DUET faculties

SOME faculties of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, have been deprived of recognition by the Higher Education Commission.

The faculties of petroleum and gas, energy, environment, telecommunications and computer system offer five-year courses and one batch of students have passed the final examinations.

But because of lack of recognition by the HEC, the Pakistan Engineering Council has refused to make successful students its members.

As a result, affected students and their parents are facing uncertainty.

Besides, the university is also entangled in a myriad of problems as it has no hostels for students and teachers. Earlier, when the institute was a college, it had four decent hostels. There is also a shortage of books in the university’s library which creates problems for students.

The prime minister’s laptop scheme has benefited all government universities, but students of this university have been ignored in this regard.

Students of this university request the president of Pakistan, the prime minister, the chief minister of Sindh, the HEC chairman and the vice-chancellor of the university to ensure that the DCET is recognised by the HEC, and books and hostel accommodation are provided to its students.
