Crackdown on beggars in city

LAHORE: A City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) squad inspected on Friday various roads and intersections of the metropolis and detained 19 beggars, of them six are women.

The officials shifted male beggars to Edhi Centre and women to Subhani Home, according to a spokesman.

The places from where the beggars were detained included The Mall, Regal, Lahore Hotel, Railway Station, Lakshmi, China Chowk, Jail Road, Kalma Chowk, Gulberg Main Market, Liberty and Moon Market, Iqbal Town.

As CDGL was busy capturing the beggars, price control magistrates got 36 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging and hoarding.

The officials also imposed a Rs124,700 fine on several others.

DENGUE: The CDGL directed on Friday the nine town municipal administrations and the district health department to intensify dengue surveillance of houses, streets, offices, junkyards, tyre shops, parks and construction sites.

REGULARISED: The Lahore Development Authority regularised on Friday services of 23 officials which included 13 junior clerks, two driver and six peons.
