Lakhvi acquitted of kidnapping

ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate of Islamabad on Tuesday acquitted Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of Mumbai attack case, in six-year-old kidnapping case.

In December last year, the Golra police had registered a case against Lakhvi for allegedly kidnapping Anwar Khan, an Afghan national, six years ago.

He was implicated in the case soon after the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) had released him on bail in the Mumbai attacks case.

Following his release on bail, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) hearing a petition, also suspended the detention order against Lakhvi.

The police then kept Lakhvi into custody after registering the kidnapping case against him.

However, the next morning Islamabad police arrested him in kidnapping case.

After the prosecution in this matter could not provide sufficient evidence against Lakhvi, the judicial magistrate Naveed Khan acquitted him of the offence.
